Gems offers the broadest selection of single point liquid level switches anywhere. Our switches are available in a vast range of sizes, mountings and materials and sensing technologies. Gems float-level switches with proven reed switch design offer trouble-free service with precise repeatability. Our electro-optic liquid level sensors are compact with solid-state switching and no moving parts.
Gems ultrasonic liquid level switches are ideal for applications requiring solid-state level measurement such as ultra-pure, dirty, coating, scalding or corrosive type liquids. Our new capacitance level sensors are available in contact and non-contact versions. Gems ExOsense piezo-resonant sensor detects liquid levels non-intrusively from the outside of plastic bottles, virtually eliminating concerns over sensor compatibility, calibration and liquid media contamination.
Capacitive Level Switches
The sensing means is based on our capacitive proximity sensing technology. Electrodes embedded in the front of the capacitive liquid level sensor detect changes in the capacitance as the fluid nears the sensor face. Once the trigger point is reached (either calibrated at Gemsâ„¢ or set by the user once after installation) the capacitive level sensor switches creating the desired output. Because they are adjustable they can be used to sense aqueous and non-aqueous fluids, regardless of color.

The new ExOsenseâ„¢ is the first and only affordable, non-intrusive liquid level sensor for plastic fluid containers. ExOsenseâ„¢ sensors adhere to the outside of plastic bottles and are unaffected by the color or transparency of the plastic. Liquids inside the bottle are untouched, so with ExOsenseâ„¢ there is no issue of material compatibility or contamination. Best of all, ExOsenseâ„¢ sensors fit any size and shape vessel, from small bottles, to large tanks.
The Exosenseâ„¢ sensor head features a peel-and-stick adhesive face that can be affixed anywhere on the outside of the tank to provide high, low or any intermediate point level fluid sensing. A detachable USB type mini-cable feeds the solid-state switch unit.

Gems™ Liquid Level Sensors operate on a direct, simple principle. In most models, a float encircling a stationary stem is equipped with powerful, permanent magnets. As the float rises or lowers with liquid level, the magnetic field generated from within the float actuates a hermetically sealed, magnetic reed switch mounted within the stem. The stem is made of non-magnetic metals or rugged, engineered plastics. When mounted vertically, this basic design provides a consistent accuracy of ±1/8 inch. Multi-station versions use a separate reed switch for each level point being monitored.
Side-mounted units use different actuation methods because of their horizontal attitude. The basic principle, however, is the same: as a direct result of rising or falling liquid, a magnetic field is moved into the proximity of a reed switch, causing its actuation.
Reed Switch Reliability
The durable construction of these reed switch designs ensures long, trouble-free service. Because the effects of shock, wear and vibration are minimized, these hermetically sealed switches provide precise repeatability with no more than 1% deviation. The sensor actuation points remain constant over the life of t

Solid-State – no moving parts
The WIF-1250 sensor is an innovative, no-moving-parts solution specifically designed to detect the presence of water in fuel. The sensor is an ideal solution for OEM’s of off-highway vehicles, locomotive and generator sets. It is also ideal for use with fuel filters. Based on reliable conductivity technology, WIF-1250 sensors are built from robust nickel plated steel for compatibility with temperatures up to 257°F (125°C), and are suited for the most challenging environments or applications. A 5-second delay circuit prevents "slosh" actuation. The sensor is easily mounted in any position.
