When your application requires that a task be performed that can not be completed with standard air cylinders, SMC can help you find the solution. SMC offers a variety of specialty air cylinders including Sine (smooth acceleration), Load Stopping, and Clamp to name a few. For example, the transportation of delicate items often requires greater control of cylinder speed, acceleration and deceleration than is afforded by traditional pneumatic cylinders. For this reason, SMC has developed a RE series of sine cylinders. These cylinders facilitate high-speed transportation of work but have very smooth actuation (similar to sine wave).
For your demanding applications our large engineering department can customize a product solution for you. Need a special variation on our standard pneumatic rotary actuator? No problem. We can create a three-stop rotary unit to meet your custom needs.
Combining compact cylinder size and rotational capability, the MK2 cylinder is designed for heavy duty clamping applications, with an available integrated arm that swings out of the way when the cylinder is extended. 90deg. clockwise or counter clockwise rotation is available, and clamping arms with adjustment screw are standard options. MK2 is available in 6 bore sizes from 20mm to 63mm and stokes from 10 mm to 50 mm.

The ML1 series is a mechanical joint rodless cylinder with brake. The brake mechanism has been compactly integrated into the slide table which enables intermediate stops of the rodless cylinder. The shock absorber can absorb small to large impacts without adjustments due to self-compensation. Many kinds of auto switches are applicable.
The ML2B series incorporates both a brake and positioning scale with a mechanical joint rodless cylinder in one convenient package. The combination of these items makes repeatable multi-stop action and positioning possible. Both the CEU1 (counter) and CEU2 (positioning controller) can be used with the ML2B. Repeatability of ±0.5mm can be achieved when using the CEU2 controller. Degradation of cylinder performance due to repeated use of the braking mechanism is eliminated as braking force is applied against replaceable side rail.
The MGC guide cylinder is ideal for material handling applications involving stopping, lifting, and pushing. It combines the functions of a conventional linear cylinder, and a non-rotation device. Features include standard air cushions, grease nipple, and switch capability. Other features include, slide or ball bushing bearings, compact design, adjustable air cushion, and lightweight guided actuator.

SMC's low cost positioning cylinder, series MPC offers a cylinder, solenoid valve, linear positioner, and controller in one package. With its integral position control, the MPC needs only 0-10VDC or 4-20mA input signal. The target position is kept by opening and closing solenoid valves controlling pressure on the cylinder. The MPC has an output signal to give position feedback to a customer's controller. Standard ball bushings protect against side load.

Series RLQ was developed to provide the safety of drop prevention, at any point of the stroke, should the air supply be cut off. The RLQ benefits from additional features such as its own built in air cushion and lock unit, standardized bypass piping and home position holding function. The new series RLQ is the perfect solution for applications which require larger kinetic energy, high stroke repeatability and decreased sound levels. Series RLQ, is currently available in bore sizes of 32, 40, 50 and 63mm, with standard stroke options of between 20 – 100mm, series
Large allowable kinetic energy
Noise reduction (27% noise reduction compared to CQ2 without cushion)
Good stroke repeatability (Metal to metal at stroke end)
Manual override mechanism allows unlocking with simple tools
Bypass piping type is available for applications requiring drop prevention
When working with delicate materials such as Silicone wafers, magnetic disks, or LCD substrates, non-shock actuation must be balanced with high speed/throughput. The REA provides the features needed to allow rapid transfer with a speed of up to 300mm/sec but virtually eliminates shock impact. Integrated cushion spears allow smooth acceleration and deceleration, while also simplifying construction of the cylinder. Based on the magnetically coupled cylinder concept, the REA's resulting smooth acceleration and deceleration occurs without influence from load, speed, or even pressure fluctuations. REA is available in 5 bore sizes from 25mm to 63mm and strokes up to 1000mm
